What happened to the YouTube ad change?

So if you haven’t been active on YouTube yet, you may not have heard of the new change in advertising policy. It all started in 2017 when advertisers complained about showing ads on racist and substandard videos.

YouTube, which saves money on video creators, has put in place a policy requiring channels to have 10,000 lifetime views before making money on ads embedded in videos.

It didn’t help.

YouTube has seen a significant increase in demand this year as complaints from advertisers of low-quality videos and questionable channels are coming up.

Video creators now need 1,000 subscribers over a 12-month period and at least 4,000 hours of watch time. Both of these are extremely high barriers.

I’ve analyzed more than 200 YouTube channels, and creators with less than 1,000 subs get an average of three or five subscribers for each video uploaded. This means 200 to 300 videos before you reach the subscribers you need to qualify to make money on your videos.

Even 4,000 YouTube channels with 1,000 subs are eliminated from the program because of the 4,000 hour requirement. If the average viewing time for each video is approximately three minutes, you will need constant videos and new views to hit 240,000 minutes per year to stay in the program.

Add to all this, can you still make money on YouTube… even if you are a small niche channel?
